So who do I talk to so that I can confirm these errors that are in the xhtml script I detected Validation Output: 35 Errors.
1. I can tell you the Line and column of where the error is. 2. This Would increase less problems on the forums like forums crashing.
example: in line 130 its an error. Currently has <input type="hidden" name="cmd" value="_s-xclick"> Should have this line: <input type="hidden" name="cmd" value="_xclick">
yeah that's from w3 html validator but this template is all fucked up. So really no point to try to fix it. Also unless you are trying to be super l33t with SEO or something it's not a big deal.
uhm i agree with nick not worth fixing unless it's causing actual problems. Standards aren't enforced in browsers anyway (go run your browser through acid3 if you dont believe me unless you're in chrome which is fucked up on resources (cool browser but hell on resources) it'll stop around 90 percent and btw on ie itll stop and take 10 x longer and still only get like 70 percent....so when browsers enforce standards programmers might care.
If you are designing a site from scratch and you want to ensure the template is 100% then sure make sure you follow all xhtml guidelines and run it through validation. However buying a template that is already done is going to be very hard to validate especially because there are 50 or so sub components which would also need validation.
I usually find free templates and edit them myself and if i hit a problem ill just simply fix it other then not care about the problem that can cause other futurous problems *cough* Cellthunder *cough*
Suave I do this for a living. I can assure you that the errors you found will not affect anything. Could they be fixed. Sure. Am I going to spend 30 hours to fix them. FUCK NO.
Yeah I picked a number outta the air for effect but honestly that "could" take up to a day because of all the sub elements that the templates have. There are 50 or so. Plus I wouldn't leave what is there I would re-code it all.
No what you are saying is that you went and ran the site through the W3 validator.
That validator detects errors based on the "doc type". You can fix each and every error and they will not cause more.
Now to find all the errors and fix them will take a while for different reasons.
1. You can run the validator on index.php. Which will use some of the templates. What about the other templates? How do you figure we should validate those like the user control panel, private messages etc? Hence you can fix the general ones in the main template but it won't make a difference because the errors will still appear on other pages with different templates which can't be accessed by the validator because those pages require login.
2. There are 50 or so sub templates. Each template is used to access a different area of the web site / forum.
3. The code they used to build the template sucks so it would be better to re-write so it's easy to follow, maintain and fix which obviously isn't a quick task. If you are one of those people that thinks using WYSIWIG is the way to go then your horribly mistaken.
Because of those above it will take MORE time to FIX the problems then it is worth.
Since both CELT and I have given you more than enough reasons not to bother with this and you continue to insist I would imagine that you have come across some horrid problem that requires the validation. Could you please share that with us and explain why you keep wasting our time with this topic?
I said i fucking trusted you with that you knew what you are doing and you are saying that I am trying to force you to fix the problems....God; thnx a lot now i just wana go in corner and cry ;p
